Narrative:
Camille Reifers is the managing partner of Reifers, Holmes & Peters LLC, including all of its offices located in Tennessee, Illinois, and Missouri. The primary focus of Ms. Reifers’ practice is civil defense litigation in high exposure matters. She has successfully achieved board certification as a civil trial advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy (NBTA). She has tried numerous jury cases to verdict in both state and federal courts. She has won defense verdicts for her clients in grade crossing, FELA, and third-party wrongful death claims involving substantial potential damages. She has successfully defended her clients in toxic exposure cases, breach of contract, eminent domain, construction law disputes, whistleblower actions, employment law cases (Fair Labor Standards Act, Title VII, Equal Pay Act, etc.), as well as appellate matters before both state and federal courts. Ms. Reifers has a strong record in obtaining dismissal or summary judgment for her clients prior to trial. She routinely negotiates settlements for her clients, including multi-million dollar negotiations. Ms. Reifers has served as a teacher numerous years at a trial college sponsored by the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel working to improve the trial skills of litigators from around the country. Additionally, she has served as a past Regional Vice President of the NARTC and is a current member of the NARTC executive committee.
Work Experience:
° Supervised associate attorneys in the performance of their job duties, in addition to multiple paralegals and secretaries
° Worked closely with clients and their risk management professionals to reduce exposure to current and future litigation
° Assisted risk management professionals with on-site investigations of grade crossing accidents, employee injuries, and property damage
° Served as lead counsel in numerous civil lawsuits tried to verdict in both state and federal court, including toxic tort litigation
° Defended lawsuits for Class I railroads in Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Illinois, Missouri, Texas, Minnesota, Texas, California, Colorado, Delaware, New Mexico, Alabama, Montana, Washington, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Idaho
° Assisted client in devising strategy to reduce claims nationwide
° Handled appellate matters before the Tennessee Court of Appeals, Mississippi Supreme Court, and United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit
° Conducted numerous depositions of plaintiffs, experts, fact witnesses, and medical professionals
° Managed a large caseload requiring delegation of tasks to associate attorneys as appropriate to properly prepare cases for resolution and trial
° Appeared at mediation and negotiated settlement agreements
° Reviewed and interpreted contracts and industry agreements
° Drafted motions, memoranda of law, affidavits, contracts, settlement agreements, appellate briefs, jury instructions, orders, etc.
° Researched issues of law involving in-depth review of scientific and medical literature
° Monitored legislative initiatives affecting the transportation industry in order to advise clients
° Participated in drafting and reviewing employee procedures
